About BCPL's Teacher Loan Library Card...

Helping educators to help kids is a part of why we're here and why we offer a special library card for teachers and educators.  We are eager to share materials with your students or groups and we think you will find that our policies make this process easy and convenient.

Who Is Eligible?

  • Teachers and Media Specialists in Baltimore County public and private schools, serving students through 12th grade

  • Day care centers and child care providers located in Baltimore County

  • Home school teachers working with Baltimore County Public Schools. The home school must be a Baltimore County residence.

  • Employees and volunteers of Baltimore County agencies and nonprofit groups responsible for book discussion groups or groups organized for educational purposes

  • Baltimore County residents who provide these services for schools and agencies outside Baltimore County are not eligible for a Teacher Loan Card.

What Are the Rules?

  • You must have a personal library card and it must be in good standing before a Teacher Loan card may be issued. Non-resident fees apply annually for acquiring a personal library card.

  • Materials are to be used for the benefit of the group or the student.

  • DVDs, video games, Playaways, Playaway Views, and new adult fiction cannot be checked out to a Teacher Loan card.

  • No charge for placing a hold request on BCPL materials, except for the Book Ahead service fee of $1.00 per item on "On Order" items appearing in the BCPL catalog.

  • If holds are not picked up, they are subject to the $1.00 per item Not Picked Up (NPU) fee.

  • Items requested through Interlibrary Loan are subject to a $2.00 BCPL processing fee plus any additional costs charged by the lending agency.

  • Loan period is for 6 weeks with no renewals. This applies to InterLibrary Loan materials as well.

  • No extended loan fees are charged for overdue items. Replacement costs and processing fees for lost or damaged materials do apply.

  • Cards expire annually on August 31st.

  • Cards must be renewed annually beginning August 1st for the new school year. All account issues from previous school years must be taken care of before a card can be renewed for the new school year.

  • All other rules and procedures apply the same as with your personal library card.

  • Questions should be directed to the branch where the card was issued.
