Using OverDrive:
 

• OverDrive has both downloadable audio and eBooks for use on your computer or a variety of supported devices
   
• eBooks are available in EPUB, PDF and Kindle formats.

• Audiobooks are available in MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) formats

• OverDrive has convenient apps available for the most popular devices to simplify your borrowing.  
   
• You can check out up to six downloadable titles at a time.
   
• You can choose a loan periods of 7, 14 or 21 days. The default loan period is 14 days.
   
• You can have up to six titles on hold at a time.
   
• When you place a hold, you will be notified by email when the title becomes available for you.
   
• Downloadables from OverDrive cannot be renewed but you can check them out again once the loan expires.
   

• EBooks can be returned early if you are using Adobe Digital Editions or an app to manage them.

• Audio books cannot be returned early.

Connecting...

You need a registered BCPL library card (in good standing) in order to checkout/download or place holds on titles.

First, be sure to log in with your BCPL library card on the OverDrive site to see our full selection of dowloadable titles.

Log into your OverDrive account by clicking the LOGIN tab from the OverDrive home page.

Once you are at the OverDrive login screen, select Baltimore County Public Library in the drop down menu, then type in your BCPL library card number.

OverDrive offers both audiobooks (MP3 and WMA) and eBooks (EPUB, Kindle and PDF). Not all formats work on all computers and devices, so remember to choose the correct format.

Audiobooks - if you want to listen to audiobooks, look for MP3 or WMA formats, depending on which type is compatible with your listening device.

eBooks - if you want to read eBooks, look for EPUB, PDF or Kindle formats, depending on which format is compatible with your computer and/or reading device.

Apps...

Get the OverDrive Media Console app for Blackberry, Droid, iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch, or Windows Mobile devices.

Download the app onto your device, then select "Maryland's Digital Library" in the GET BOOKS section of the app.

Downloading...

Get the needed the software! Unless you are using an app or a Kindle device, OverDrive requires that you install free software before you can download titles.        

• Audiobooks - to listen to and transfer audiobooks you must download and install OverDrive Media Console for Windows or Mac computers.
                                                                                                                
• eBooks - to read and/or transfer ebooks to a device, you must download, install, and register Adobe Digital Editions (unless you are downloading to a Kindle device or Kindle app)
                                

Reading/Listening...

You can listen to the audio files (WMA and MP3) or read eBook files (EPUB, Kindle and PDF) on your home computer or you can transfer them to an OverDrive compatible device. 

In many cases, titles must be downloaded to your computer, via USB cable, before they can be transferred to your device.  

Help...

Go to the OverDrive Help menu for a Guided Tour of OverDrive, a list of supported devices, system requirments, and troubleshooting tips.

After checking the OverDrive Help menus, if you have an issue which you cannot resolve, use the Customer Support Request form to email OverDrive for help. Please include a detailed description of the issue you are experiencing in your request.  It may take up to 72 hours to recieve a response, depending on when you submitted your request.
