Most birth control methods have one purpose - to prevent pregnancy. Some will also help prevent the transfer of infection. If you are sexually active and do not want to become pregnant, you should consider some type of protection and contraception. Birth control devices are available in drugstores and pharmacies and from private physicians and health clinics.
Did You Know?
If you become pregnant when you are under 18, there is a risk to your health and to that of your baby. Four out of every five girls who have intercourse without using birth control will become pregnant during the first year of sexual activity. There is even a chance that you may become pregnant after only one unprotected intercourse.
Maryland Medical Assistance programs for Maryland residents who are United States citizens or qualified legal residents cover family planning services, including exams, screening for STDs, and birth control. Coverage for permanent sterilization (for men and women) and abortion services varies depending on the plan. Call the Medical Assistance Hotline 1-800-456-8900 for more information.

Confidential birth control counseling, information and birth control supplies and pregnancy tests. Emergency contraception (Morning After Pill) available. Fees are based on your ability to pay. You will not be turned away if you cannot pay! Please call to make an appointment between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Family Planning Clinics or Young Adult Clinics nearest you.

Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene - Maryland Medical Assistance - Family Planning Program

Provides medical services to eligible low-income women under 51 years old and for women who lost their Medicaid coverage after they were covered for a pregnancy under the Maryland Children’s Health Program (MCHP). The Family Planning Program is a limited benefit package. Visits to a doctor, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, or clinic for many birth control services will be covered including advice about birth control methods; physical exams, including pelvic and breast exam; screenings, such as pap smears and sexually transmitted infections when done as part of the family planning visit; birth control pills and devices, such as IUDs; emergency contraception; and permanent sterilization (must be age 21 or over). Abortion and infertility treatments are not covered.

Planned Parenthood of Maryland
Counseling and guidance in the selection of birth control. Provides variety of birth control methods, including long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) and Vasectomy and routine gynecological exams. Emergency contraception (Morning-After pill) available. Accepts most Maryland Medical Assistance and most major commercial insurance. A sliding fee scale is available for those without insurance who qualify.
